Jason Hawkins and Anastasia Kiku founded Reusables in 2020 to replace the single-use cups and takeout containers used by food service operators with returnable ones. Consumers are asked to return containers to participating locations within 14 days or pay a replacement fee. They charge monthly fees for individual cafes and corporate clients. They serve about 70 Vancouver restaurants and cafes and are expanding to service university campuses in the US. Food service giants will pilot Reusables next year at university and corporate campuses in Vancouver and the San Francisco Bay area.
